We drove from Anchorage to Homer stopping along the way to take in the beautiful scenery of Alaska
Homer, AK
On our way to Katmai to do the Bear viewing our pilot took advantage of the perfect flying conditions and took us through an amazing ride through volcanoes, glaciers, and mountains. This only happens for them 2-3 times a summer to get those perfect flying conditions so our pilot was really excited! Almost a little too excited as he came very close to the Volcanoes, glaciers and mountains. It was an incredible experience.
This is a view of the "Homer Spit" from above. The Spit is a hot spot for fishing charters, bear viewing, and of course restaurants serving fresh halibut, scallops, king crabs, and salmon.
We spent most of our trip in Homer. We stayed in the Lands End resort which was located at the edge of the Homer Spit. On a clear day we had an incredible view of the mountains and the ocean.
This was everyones first time visiting Alaska. As you can see we took many pictures of the Beautiful Scenery, wildlife, and landscape. We also managed to get in a few shots of people....Us!!
This is our hiking expedition! It started out with a boat ride to a National Park. Then we hiked in the chilly rain, crossed a river in a pulley tram, took a "short-cut" through black bear country. Then we found ourselves at our destination of a beautiful lake and glacier...still cold and rainy!. Then hiked more to our boat pick up through very rugged and muddy terrain! It was actually very rewarding except for the end when we had to wait for our boat for an hour freezing!
Here we are fishing the Kenai River in AK. It was absolutely beautiful! We caught a handful of fish including a 65 lb. King salmon (caught by Sonny). We caught 2 Silver Salmons (Rob and Sonny). The others were pink salmon (aka Humpys) and apparently were not good to eat this time of year.
Here we are by our plane to go Bear Viewing! There are also pics of the Glacier and Volcano that we were able to fly right by because the weather was so great!
Here we are viewing the bears! It was an awesome experience!
Here are pics of just the bears. We were unbelieveably close but actually felt pretty safe!
